Love fell laughing

Love fell laughing into the gulf
between our feet. We burned the lies
to stay warm, those that had lashed us

together, hobbled. Some saw us
as one splendid flesh, to engulf
their own griefs. They were wrong What lies

in us is a hope that belies
all expectation. For both of us
we owe our lives to this new gulf

the gulf, hard-won, that lies between us.

About Andrew Kreider

I'm a poet and musician, transplanted from London, England to beautiful northern Indiana. By day I am a stay-at-home dad with our three kids while my amazingly talented spouse conquers medical school one long shift at a time. At night, I'm a performer and trouble-maker. I love my life.

  2. I liked the humility inherent in this. I also like very much your both owing your lives to this hard-won gulf. Wonderfully written.

  3. This is interesting and sad in its way … I like that the "gulf" is used as the focal point for gathering what is hard-won; not what is expected … very nice. And in the end, triumphant.http://thepoet-tree-house.blogspot.com/2012/03/fog-at-dusk-is-crowded.html

  4. A wonderful reversal on the usual expectation of love and the perceptions of those who observe it– I so get this and am there as well. xxxj
